INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: DIETRICH GAINS

(GRADUATE AI INNOVATION AND NETWORKING SERIES)

 

The Dietrich School Graduate Studies Office is pleased to invite applications for five micro-internships with the Graduate AI Innovation and Networking Series (GAINS) project.

This new project explores the impact and opportunities precipitated by artificial intelligence in graduate education across the various disciplines of the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, promoting AI literacy and spurring innovative research and pedagogy. The initiative will provide a resource repository, solicit, and curate contributions from the community (in the form of “AI Bites”), host workshops and speakers, produce a bi-weekly newsletter, and maintain a website aggregating these resources as a public good for the community.  

Mentored graduate student internships with GAINS will enhance the students’ professional development and strengthen their research skills. Students will gain collaborative experiences while using their existing skills and developing new competencies. GAINS Interns will develop a deeper understanding of university administration and higher education leadership, explore the potential uses of AI in research and teaching, deepen strategic competencies, and extend professional relationships.

Eligibility: DSAS graduate students in any department and program; the initiative will be most impactful with at least one graduate intern from each of the DSAS divisions (humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences). All interested students should apply, regardless of current funding status.  

Stipend: $1,500

Skills & Qualifications: We will be building a diverse team of five students with complementary interests, skills, and abilities – the most critical qualification is an interest in the impact of AI on higher education, the curiosity to further research that topic, the drive to remain currently informed on a very rapidly-changing issue, and a commitment to sharing that information with our colleagues.

The selected students will develop the following skills; any existing experience in one or more of these areas will be beneficial in applications:

  • Writing and editing for a variety of audiences
  • Video production and editing
  • Web and data scraping
  • Social media management and engagement
  • Website design and maintenance; maintaining updated mailing lists
  • Project management
  • Event planning and management

Expectations:

  • Dedicate 5 hours of effort per week for 15 weeks
  • Attend weekly GAINS staff meetings as well as biweekly GAINS committee meetings
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with GAINS mentors and colleagues
  • Contribute at least one piece to AI Bites (written, video, or other)
  • Assist in event hosting
  • Work both independently and collaboratively
